Customer Update - Bird Flu 03/03/2017
We would like to update our customers with regard to the recent situation regarding bird flu in the UK and how this has been affecting our hens. All of our hens been housed for a total of 12 weeks for their protection against this disease.
Although our farm is in a low risk area the Chief Veterinary officer has strongly advised us to continue to house our birds until further review. We anticipate that the virus threat will lessen with the end of the wild bird migratory period at the end of March – so about another 3 weeks.
So what does this mean about the temporary farming method of the eggs you buy from us?
The birds are still free range in the sense that nothing has changed in their housing environment other than letting them have access outdoors to the range. Our birds have coped very well with this confinement and have plenty of freedom to move around their barn, feeding and drinking and playing in the scratching areas as usual!
All our prepacked eggs will have a sticker displayed informing the customer about the continued restrictions on outdoor access.
